Loki is the god of mischief in Norse Mythology.
Loki's relation with the gods varies; Loki sometimes assists the gods and sometimes behaves maliciously towards them.
Loki is a shape shifter and the father of Hél (goddess of the underworld), Fenrir (the giant wolf), Jörmungandr (the world serpent) and gave birth to the eight-legged horse Sleipnir.
Loki the trickster seems to be the reason for the number 13 being unlucky.
It was said that one evening in Valhalla, twelve Gods gathered to feast together, and Loki crashed the party, as the 13th guest.
During the evening, Loki arranged for Hod (the blind god of darkness) to shoot Baldur,(the god of joy and gladness) with a arrow that had been dipped in mistletoe.
Mistletoe was the only thing Odin had forgotten when he had made all living and dead things promise never to hurt his beloved Baldur.
Baldur died from the arrow and the earth turned dark, to mourn the loss.
Since then the number 13 has been considered an unlucky number.
